It was a pretty exciting first day living on the boat in Sturgeon Bay. I was able to wrangle a tech position with the marina where Carpe Diem is being stored (CenterPointe). I spent the entire 10 hour day underneath boats and getting the dirtiest I’ve ever been; it was fantastic. It’s been years since I’ve been able to use my hands as a trade. I left at the end of the day with a great sense of accomplishment; it brought me back to the days of working as a mechanic at the local bike shop while in high school. I hope to be able to learn as much as I possibly can from these guys before my Dad and I depart.
For only being here a single day, I have already met some wonderful and interesting people. Everyone here at the marina is very friendly and great to work with. Some of them have lived on boats all across the world. On top of that, I got to work right along side the President of Palmer Johnson yachts son, Palmer. Great kid, very mature for his age as he is only a sophomore in high school. His dad’s company actually just splashed this yacht:
It was an incredible sight to see as I crossed over the bridge to where the marina is located. Apparently it belongs to some very wealthy Russian. They say he’s Mafia… I’ll have to check my sources! Nevertheless, it’s an amazing looking yacht. One of the most advanced boats that the company has ever launched to date. However, I ran into a painter for Palmer Johnson and was told that they’re finalizing production of an even more advanced design. A trimaran stern that funnels into a mono-hull at the bow. Pretty cool! It’s also supposedly being painted a bright gold metallic color. I may have to wander down the road to see if I can get a peek.
